Aloha! Learn that there's so much more to Hawaii than Waikiki. You will find volcanoes, waterfalls, beaches, rainforest and the spirit of aloha. You will journey through Oahu, Maui, Kauai, the Big Island of Hawaii, Lanai and Hawaii's most authentic island - Molokai, where the spirit of old Hawaii lives on and is untouched by mass tourism. The Tutor has visited Hawaii many times and will provide you with handy hints for accommodation, food and shopping.

Your Tutor is Margo Christey

Margo has been teaching with the WEA since 2026.

With more than 27 years in the travel industry, Margo brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and a genuine passion for exploring the world.  Her career has included 16 years with Qantas International, followed by roles with Jetstar and Norwegian Cruise Line.  Having travelled extensively herself, Margo enjoys sharing not only the destinations but also the stories, history, culture and personal experiences that bring each place to life.

Margo holds a Bachelor of Business Administration, a Certificate III in Travel and Tourism, and has completed specialist certification with a range of leading river and ocean cruise companies.

Course Description

Discover the incredible diversity of the Hawaiian Islands and learn why there is so much more to Hawaii than Waikiki. 

From golden beaches, lush rainforests and spectacular waterfalls to active volcanoes, dramatic coastlines and rich Polynesian culture, this engaging course explores the unique character of each island. 

Whether you're dreaming of a relaxing beach holiday, an adventurous road trip or a deeper understanding of Hawaiian history and traditions, you'll discover the many experiences that make Hawaii one of the world's most captivating destinations.

Drawing on extensive personal travel experience, your tutor will guide you through the six main islands of Oahu, Maui, Kauai, the Big Island of Hawaii, Lanai and Molokai, sharing practical travel advice alongside fascinating stories and local insights. 

Along the way, you'll learn about Hawaii's history, geography, culture, music, food and traditions, while receiving helpful tips on accommodation, transport, shopping and planning an unforgettable Hawaiian holiday.

Course Structure

This illustrated course combines travel experiences, cultural insights and practical planning advice to provide a comprehensive introduction to the Hawaiian Islands. 

Students will explore the history, geography and traditions of Hawaii before visiting each island in turn, discovering iconic attractions including Waikiki Beach, Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head, the Road to Hana, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and the dramatic landscapes of Kauai. 

The course also highlights the unique character of the quieter islands of Lanai and Molokai, where visitors can experience a slower pace of life and a stronger connection to traditional Hawaiian culture. 

Throughout the course, students will receive practical recommendations for accommodation, transport, dining, shopping and self-drive holidays, making it ideal for anyone planning a future visit.

Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students should be able to:
