EL CAMINO DE SANTIAGO

In 2025 over half a million people walked the Camino de Compostela, 9,000 of them Australians. This course concentrates primarily on the Camino Frances, touching briefly on several other routes culminating in Santiago de Compostela. We begin by exploring the history and folklore of the way, the terrain, prominent pilgrim sites, villages, and towns. After lunch practical information is covered that will assist you in preparing for the journey, focusing on resources, equipment, accommodation etc. A comprehensive handout will be provided.

PILGRIMAGE ROUTES LESS TRAVELLED

There are many other pilgrimage routes besides the well known Camino Frances. This course briefly introduces a number of less travelled routes including the Camino Ignaciano, Via Francigena, Via Romea Germanica, Cammino di Assisi, several Jakobsweg routes in Germany, a number of Chemin St Jacques routes through France and the Kumano Kodo in Japan. Our experienced tutor will also have maps and guide books on display as a reference.
