For complete beginners and those with a little knowledge (ie have completed a WEA Languages for Fun and Travel or Chinese Mandarin Conversation). This course will introduce students to basic Chinese character writing as well as Pin Yin, with conversational practice. Digressions into culture will bring the language alive for you. This course is a new novel approach to learning the language. Given that Latin was a means of communication for the Romans, these sessions have an emphasis on learning to speak as well as to write and translate. Aspects of Roman history and cultural life are also discussed: did the Romans have schools, vets,hospitals and obstetricians? What long lasting contributions did they make to our Anglo-Saxon society? All this is dealt with in a relaxed and fun-filled environment. Texts required: Lingua Latina per se Illustrata, Pars 1: Familia Romana 1 + Exercitia Latina 1: Exercises for Familia Romana.
This course is designed to improve your conversational skills in Spanish with extensive use of visual aids, role plays and practice reading aloud. We will focus on having fun while making mistakes and enjoying each others company. Topics will be aimed at improving everyday conversation and will be guided by group preferences. Participants will interact with other Spanish learners to practice pronunciation and conversation. (WEA Year 5 level of knowledge expected).
