Mastering the basics of foreign language conversation is easier than you think. In these courses you will learn how to ask simple questions, talk about yourself, make enquiries and socialise. By the end of the course, with proper application and home practise, you should be able to make yourself understood by a native speaker.

Tere Herrera
Tere Herrera started teaching at WEA in 2012.
Tere, originally from Mexico City, holds a degree in Communications and Public Relations from Latin American University in Mexico.
She gained valuable experience as an adjunct university professor in her home country before relocating to Australia, where she has lived for the past 15 years.
For over 13 years, Tere has been dedicated to teaching Spanish at WEA Adult Learning.
In April 2016, she earned a Certificate of Achievement in Teaching Adult Learners from the Central Institute of Technology.
Course Description
Spanish for Fun and Travel is a beginner-friendly course designed to equip students with the essential Spanish needed for common travel and social situations.
Whether you're planning a holiday in Spain or Latin America or simply looking to connect more meaningfully with Spanish-speaking communities, this course provides a fun and practical introduction to the language.
Students will learn how to introduce themselves, ask for directions, order meals, book accommodation, and navigate typical travel scenarios with greater confidence.
Emphasis is placed on real-world communication, with a focus on pronunciation, listening comprehension, and simple conversational exchanges.
In addition to building practical language skills, this course helps students develop cultural awareness and appreciation for the diversity of the Spanish-speaking world.
Through engaging audio activities, cultural insights, and interactive games, learners will explore various traditions, social customs, and regional accents.
Weekly lesson notes are provided to support ongoing learning, with the teacher guiding students through vocabulary, expressions, and conversation practice.
The classroom environment is dynamic and welcoming, encouraging participation, curiosity, and a sense of fun.
Course Structure
The course follows a progressive structure that builds confidence and communication skills step by step.
Each lesson introduces a themed topic such as greetings, dining out, or asking for directions, along with the vocabulary and expressions needed for that context.
