There is a short break between terms. This new course is a 24-week course designed for beginners looking to build practical conversational skills with the occasional introduction of grammar rules. This interactive online class focuses on natural communication, helping students gain confidence in speaking and listening through engaging activities, dialogues, and real-life scenarios. Perfect for those who find traditional grammar-heavy classes intimidating, this course fosters a relaxed learning atmosphere. This class focuses on practical language use and communication. Your Tutor is Dr. Veronica Calarco.

Dr Veronica Calarco has been teaching at WEA since 2010. 

Veronica grew up in a small country town in Victoria and fulfilled an early aim of living in every state in Australia. 

In the 1990s, Veronica completed a degree in printmaking and a postgraduate degree in weaving at the Institute of Arts, Australia National University. After university, she ran a graphic design business and worked as a community artist in Canberra and then worked in the remote areas of Australia such as the Kimberleys, north Western and central Australia.

Veronica now lives in Wales. She first visited Wales in 2004 and began living between Wales and Australia, before finally settling permanently in Wales in 2012. She received an A level in Welsh in 2013 and the Dan Lynn James Scholarship to study Welsh in 2014. She loves learning languages and is obsessed with buying language books and doing the exercises. In 2021, Veronica completed a PhD in printmaking looking at Indigenous languages at the School of Art, Aberystwyth University. 

She is the founder of Stiwdio Maelor, an artist in residence program, where she has created a print studio. She is a director of Aberystwyth Printmakers. Veronica teaches all printmaking techniques and was a lecturer in Printmaking at Aberwystwyth University and now runs workshops in her studio.
