Think Scottish dancing is all kilts and swords? Think again! Dance Scottish is the traditional social dancing of Scotland — lively, energetic, and great fun. Over four friendly sessions, you’ll learn the essential steps and formations at the heart of many Scottish dances. Designed for most ages, these sessions are a joyful way to move to great music, meet new people, and give both your mind and body a workout — without even realising you’re exercising. No experience needed. No partner required. Just turn up, have a go, and enjoy the music and movement. Your Tutor is Neville Pope

Neville Pope has been teaching at WEA since 2026. 

Neville is a highly experienced and respected teacher of Scottish Country Dancing, formally recognised by the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS) in Edinburgh. He has been involved in Scottish Country Dance for over 40 years and has taught the discipline for more than 20 years.

Neville’s connection to Scottish dance began in childhood, with his first Highland Dancing lessons at the age of eight. He later returned to Highland Dancing as an adult, performing with the Adelaide Celts Broadsword Team. His passion for both teaching and dancing continues to this day.

Neville has recently retired as Chair of the Australian Teachers’ Alliance and currently serves as Chair of the Adelaide Teachers’ Panel for Scottish Country Dance, bringing deep expertise, leadership, and enthusiasm to his teaching.
