Course Description

If you’ve ever dreamed of turning your passion for yoga into a meaningful career, this 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training course is the perfect place to start.

Designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to lead safe, inspiring, and inclusive yoga classes, this training dives deep into postures (asana), breathwork (pranayama), meditation, anatomy, and yoga philosophy.

You’ll explore both the ancient roots and modern evolution of yoga, learning how to share this life-changing practice with others in a practical and grounded way.

More than just physical movement, this course embraces the holistic nature of yoga.

You’ll be supported to grow as both a teacher and a practitioner, learning verbal and visual cueing, sequencing techniques for Vinyasa Flow and Classical Hatha styles, and the foundations of running a yoga business.

Upon graduation, students receive a 200-hour Yoga Teaching Certificate, with the option to register with Yoga Australia or Yoga Alliance (registration at student's own cost).

Whether you're looking to change careers or deepen your personal journey, this training offers an empowering and transformative experience.

Course Structure

The course includes 120 hours of face-to-face practical training, focusing on teaching techniques, asana, breathwork, meditation, and class sequencing.

You'll also learn how to cue effectively, adjust students safely, and manage the flow of a class.

The remaining 80 non-contact hours include independent study and practice—students will create their own class sequences and maintain a personal yoga practice journal.

The curriculum is divided into five key educational categories:

  1. Techniques and Training (poses, breathing, and meditation)
  2. Teaching Methodology (cuing, sequencing, and adjusting)
  3. Anatomy and Physiology (movement, biomechanics, nervous system)
  4. Philosophy and Lifestyle (yoga history, ethics, and the business of yoga)
  5. Practicum (practice teaching and documenting your own learning)

Each week blends theory, practical teaching experience, personal reflection, and class discussion to ensure well-rounded development.

A Yoga Teacher Training manual (workbook) will be provided and is included in the course fee.

Please wear comfortable yoga clothing and bring a notepad and pen.

“You know how people tell you something has literally changed their life, and you nod and smile in a non-committal way, because you really don’t understand what they are talking about? Well, now I understand this sentiment after completing Yoga Teacher Training with Ambika.”

“I have been a yogi for 15 years. Ambika's expertise is obvious from the start.”

Your Tutor is Ambika Chadwick

Ambika has been teaching at WEA since 2025

She has been a Yoga Teacher for over 25 years, and a Yoga Teacher Trainer for over 10 years. Her business, The Yoga Social, has been training teachers throughout Australia, online and in person and she’s so happy to commence sharing her knowledge of yoga at WEA.

Ambika discovered yoga in her late teens, and lived in ashrams and travelled the globe studying yoga and meditation and also working as a performer.

She’s embarked on numerous trainings herself, including 3 x 200hr trainings, 1 x 300hr training and many movement workshops and courses over the past 30 years.

She is a senior yoga teacher with Yoga Australia, and her courses are registered with both Yoga Australia and Yoga Alliance, which means that students who graduate from her courses also have the opportunity to register with these industry bodies.

When she’s not yoga’ing, or working as a course coordinator (upstairs) at WEA, this crazy cat lady is listening to David Bowie on vinyl, eating vegan food and tending to her veggie garden.
