The Joy of Sobriety is a thought-provoking and empowering short course designed to explore the growing global trend of living alcohol-free. 

Whether you're sober-curious, taking a break from drinking, or looking to make long-term changes, this course offers a welcoming, non-judgmental space to learn, reflect and engage. 

Discover how the alcohol-free lifestyle is rapidly transforming the wellness landscape with sober bars, alcohol-free events, travel, and a rise in global sober communities. 

You’ll also look at how Australia’s unique drinking culture compares and consider what sobriety could mean for your personal health, social life, and sense of joy.

This course combines education with inspiration, introducing a range of strategies and support structures that can help you explore or maintain sobriety in a way that works for you. 

Through conversation and guided discussion, you’ll examine motivations, societal norms, and real-world tools for reducing or eliminating alcohol from your life. 

Whether you're looking for a reset, clarity, or connection, this course provides fresh perspectives and practical takeaways.

Course Structure

The session opens with a look at the international Sober Curious movement and the rise of alcohol-free living as a wellness choice. 

Participants will explore how this movement is reshaping social norms around drinking and replacing them with inclusive, mindful alternatives. 

The discussion then turns local, examining Australia’s cultural relationship with alcohol and how it influences our behaviours and expectations. 

We’ll explore a range of alcohol-free options, from drinks to events and community support, and share insights into how people across the world are embracing this lifestyle. 

The course wraps up with a practical session outlining the Top 10 strategies for becoming and staying sober, whether temporarily or as a long-term shift, and how to build a lifestyle filled with clarity, connection, and joy.

Your tutor is Christine Diamond

Chrstine has been teaching at WEA since 2025.

Christine Diamond, LLB, MBA, grew up in Adelaide and after being admitted to practice law in South Australia, took a year off to travel to Europe. She then went to New York and after practicing for a number of years, went to New York University and wrote two travel books on living in New York.

She had some serious health challenges and came to realize that there was a whole body of knowledge she had been completely unaware of. So, she decided to study healing and nutrition at the world’s oldest alternative health institute in Florida and then became a certified life, wellness and addiction coach.

Today, she consults, writes and lectures around the world on health, healing and happiness.

Having travelled to close to 100 countries to learn about their particular practices, she has realized that Australia truly has a very unique way of living not found anywhere else.

Travel is one of her great passions, along with cooking, yoga, tennis and reading.
