This beginners sketchbook course is designed to take you from a blank page to a confident artist, offering practical drawing skills. It will introduce you to ideas for sketchbook page layouts. The range of techniques allows the beginner student to create depth, texture, and realism, spanning from loose, quick, expressive sketching to meticulous, rendered shading. You will work with varied media such as lead pencil, carbon paste, charcoal, coloured pencils, markers, ballpoint pens and wax crayons to achieve exciting effects and learn how to sketch professionally. Course covers a vast variety of subjects ranging from direct observation of nature elements, form accuracy, human shapes, urban scenes to specialised styles for your sketchbook art. Victoria Lowery MA VisArt, GradDipEdSec has been teaching at WEA since April 2011.
Victoria is passionate about the creative process, and has been drawing, painting, working with textiles and designing from an early age, influenced by her father who was an artist and graphic designer.
Victoria emigrated from Ukraine as an established artist and graduate of L’viv National Academy of Arts, and came to South Australia in 2011 after living and exhibiting her artwork in Austin, Texas in the United States for two years.
While teaching at the WEA, Victoria completed a Master’s Degree in Visual Art and Design and Illustration and later, a Diploma in Secondary Education at UniSA.
Victoria teaches a range of WEA art and craft courses including acrylic and watercolour painting, drawing, textiles and fibre design.
