As popularity rises, chair yoga is now offered in places such as retirement villages, aged care facilities and community centres. This specialised training is designed for qualified yoga teachers, and we also welcome experienced movement teachers and health practitioners. We will cover common issues associated with ageing as well as warming up, stretching, strengthening and relaxation on a chair. You'll also learn the ins and outs of how to sequence a chair yoga class, and who you might approach once you're qualified to find work. Please note, the information in this course will assist you to teach Chair Yoga to older adults, and also general information for other populations who might need to practice chair yoga rather than mat yoga, however it does not cover information regarding disabilities, injuries or illness.

Your Tutor is Ambika (Beeks) Chadwick

Beeks has been teaching at WEA since 2025

She has been a yoga teacher for more than 25 years and a yoga teacher trainer for over 10 years. Through her business, The Yoga Social, she has trained teachers across Australia, both online and in person, and is delighted to be sharing her knowledge and experience with WEA.

Discovering yoga in her late teens, she went on to live in ashram communities, travel the world studying yoga and meditation, and work as a performer. Over the past 30 years, she has continued her own learning through numerous trainings, including three 200-hour teacher trainings, a 300-hour training, and countless movement workshops and courses.

A Senior Yoga Teacher with Yoga Australia, her teacher training courses are registered with both Yoga Australia and Yoga Alliance. This means graduates have the opportunity to register with these recognised industry bodies.

When she’s not teaching yoga or working upstairs at WEA as a Course Coordinator, this self-confessed crazy cat lady can be found listening to David Bowie on vinyl, enjoying vegan food and obsessing over documentaries (especially true crime, and cults!)
