This course is a new novel approach to learning the language. Given that Latin was a means of communication for the Romans, these sessions have an emphasis on learning to speak as well as to write and translate. Aspects of Roman history and cultural life are also discussed: did the Romans have schools, vets, hospitals and obstetricians? What long lasting contributions did they make to our Anglo-Saxon society? All this is dealt with in a relaxed and fun-filled environment. Texts required: Lingua Latina per se Illustrata, Pars 1: Familia Romana 1 + Exercitia Latina 1: Exercises for Familia Romana. There is a short break between terms.
Martin Coghlan started teaching at WEA in 2015 and has a BA, DipEd.
