Course Description

French 2 is a year-long course designed for students who have completed French 1 or an equivalent beginner-level program.

This course builds upon foundational knowledge and expands vocabulary, grammar, and conversational skills in a supportive and interactive environment.

With a strong focus on everyday communication, students will gain the confidence to talk about routines, future plans, special events, travel experiences, and cultural traditions.

As students progress through the course, they’ll engage with key grammatical structures such as reflexive verbs, near future tense, and recent past.

Lessons are designed to strengthen all four language skills including listening, speaking, reading, and writing, while also fostering cultural awareness of life in France and other French-speaking regions.

The learning journey is paced to allow for regular revision.

Course Structure

Students will work through three themed textbook units across the year. Each unit combines grammar, vocabulary, and cultural knowledge with practical communication goals.

  • Linguistic goals: Use reflexive verbs in the present tense; near future (futur proche); time expressions.
  • Pragmatic goals: Talk about daily routines, invite someone, speak about future plans.
  • Cultural goals: Understand everyday life in France and common habits.

Unit 5: Special Moments

  • Linguistic goals: Use recent past (passé récent), near future, reciprocal reflexive verbs.
  • Pragmatic goals: Understand questionnaires, talk about celebrations and traditions, give advice.
  • Cultural goals: Learn about French holidays and rituals; understand celebration customs.

Unit 6: A Change of Scenery

  • Linguistic goals: Use prepositions with cardinal directions; structures for discussing travel.
