Whether you’re preparing for routine maintenance or want to know what to do in case of emergency, this course covers the essential systems and components of outboard motors and boating rigs.
No prior mechanical knowledge is needed, just an interest in learning more about what powers your adventures on the water.
You'll learn through a combination of demonstrations, real motor components, and plain-English explanations.
You'll explore the workings of two-stroke motors, fuel and electrical systems, gearboxes, cooling systems, trailers, and boat accessories.

Course Structure
The course begins with an introduction to the theory behind two-stroke outboard motors, including how the powerhead and fuel system function.
In the second session, you'll look at the electrical system, manual and electric starting mechanisms, and power trim systems.
The third session focuses on gearboxes, propellers, and how the engine keeps cool.
In the final session, attention turns to the broader boating setup including covering trailers, steering systems, and controls, along with practical tips on accessories and emergency repairs.
Demonstrations will be supported with real engine parts and some printed handouts.
