Course Description

Whether you ride daily or only on weekends, knowing how to maintain your motorcycle can save you time, money, and hassle. 

Motorcycle Maintenance is designed for riders who want to better understand their machine and gain the confidence to carry out routine servicing, basic repairs, and fault diagnosis. 

Across five evening theory sessions and one practical Saturday morning workshop, you’ll cover everything from chain adjustments and brake servicing to oil changes and electrical checks – essential knowledge for any motorcycle owner.

This course is perfect for beginners as well as those looking to brush up on their skills. 

You’ll learn how to identify wear and tear, keep your bike running smoothly, and tackle minor issues before they become major problems. 

Whether you're interested in performance, safety, or self-sufficiency on the road, this course will give you the confidence to care for your bike properly.

Course Structure

  • Understanding the components: fuel system, coolant, engine and transmission oils
  • Chain and sprocket care: cleaning, inspection, and adjustment
  • Brake systems: pads, fluid levels, bleeding hydraulic brakes
  • Air filters and lubrication: inspection, replacement, and care
  • Basic electrical and drive systems: minor repairs and preventative maintenance
  • Hands-on tasks: oil changes, brake pad replacement, chain adjustments
  • Tyre pressure and wear checks
  • Wheel bearing inspection and replacement
  • Application of all previously taught concepts on real motorcycles

Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Perform basic servicing tasks such as oil changes and air filter maintenance
  • Adjust and replace chains and sprockets
  • Replace brake pads or shoes and manage brake fluid systems
  • Identify and correct common motorcycle faults
  • Understand the basics of motorcycle gearing and electrical systems
  • Inspect and replace wheel bearings correctly and safely
  • Improve bike performance and longevity through preventative maintenance
  • Approach motorcycle maintenance with increased confidence and independence
