K9 Nutrition for Better Health is a hands-on, evidence-based course designed to help dog owners and pet professionals build confidence in feeding practices.
You’ll explore how macronutrients affect everything from energy to mood, learn how to spot common food-related issues, and discover enrichment strategies that transform mealtime into a brain-boosting activity.
Whether your dog is young, ageing, anxious, or picky, this course equips you with practical knowledge to support their unique health needs through nutrition.
Throughout the session, you’ll take part in interactive lessons and simple, practical exercises that bring the science of canine nutrition to life.
We’ll cover safe and unsafe foods, build sample meals, explore the gut-health-behaviour connection, and discuss how diet can help address stress, digestive problems and behavioural challenges.
You'll walk away with clear protocols, a meal-building framework, and enrichment feeding ideas that not only boost health but also make mealtimes more meaningful.
This course is ideal for anyone committed to holistic, nutrition-first care for the dogs in their life.
Course Structure
The course begins with a breakdown of canine macronutrients (proteins, fats, carbohydrates, and fibre) and how they affect energy levels, skin, coat, digestion and behaviour.
From there, participants explore safe and toxic foods, learn to read labels, and create dog-appropriate meals using whole ingredients.
Special attention is given to the unique needs of senior dogs and strategies to support ageing gracefully.
Gut health is next, with an overview of probiotics, prebiotics and digestive aids that promote immunity and overall wellbeing.
The session then looks at how food influences mood and behaviour, and wraps up with practical feeding enrichment techniques like puzzle feeders, slow bowls and sniff mats to encourage natural behaviours and prevent boredom.

As a K9 Naturopath & Nutritionist at Holistic Paw Health, Kat is passionate about the education and use of natural holistic methods for health and wellbeing - both in people and dogs. Having had to say goodbye to her childhood dog due to cancer, Kat knew there had to be a better more natural way to improve and maintain dogs' health.
It was this catalyst that propelled Kat to learn about natural remedies and holistic health therapies for dogs and gain knowledge and experience in naturopathic treatment for our four-legged friends. Using these methods and remedies on her own dog, Kat very quickly saw the benefits of this natural and holistic approach and went on to gain specific qualifications in the canine field.
Kat's mission, with the help of her furry friend Koko the Lab, is to improve the health and quality of life for our canine companions through owner education and naturopathic remedies focusing on holistic health and wellbeing.
Kat enjoys holding balance in life by spending time with family, trips to the beach with her labrador and being active whilst successfully running her business in natural medicine.
