Introduction to Croquet

Course Description

Croquet is a unique, intriguing, and surprisingly strategic sport that offers both mental stimulation and social connection.

In this beginner-friendly course, you'll learn the basics of croquet, from how to hold a mallet to understanding the different styles of play that can be enjoyed with just six hoops, four balls, and a few players.

Whether you're brand new to the game or curious about how it all works, this is the perfect introduction to a sport that’s both relaxed and rewarding.

Croquet has a rich history dating back to 19th-century Europe, where it was enjoyed on manicured lawns as a genteel pastime. Today, it continues to bring people together across all ages.

As a social sport, croquet encourages light competition, teamwork, and conversation – making it ideal for those looking to stay active while building connections.

Whether you’re in it for casual fun or inspired to play more competitively, croquet offers a refreshing mix of focus, strategy, and friendly engagement.

Course Structure

In this welcoming and hands-on course, you'll be gently introduced to the foundational skills of croquet, beginning with how to confidently hold a mallet and develop control over your shots.

You'll learn the art of “stalking” the ball – approaching it with precision to send it exactly where you want it to go – and how to guide it cleanly through the hoop, one of the core goals of the game.

As the sessions progress, you'll be introduced to the different styles of croquet, including Golf Croquet, Ricochet Croquet, and Association Croquet. Each variation brings its own rhythm, rules, and strategies, and you’ll be guided through the specific skills and tactics needed to enjoy each one.

Along the way, you’ll pick up the unique terminology of the sport, explore its rich history and evolution, and enjoy plenty of lively discussion.

All of this takes place in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere where learning is as much about enjoyment and connection as it is about technique.
