Course Description

In this hands-on class, you'll dive into the delicious world of Turkish cuisine by learning to make the iconic Turkish flatbread, gözleme (pronounced goh-zle-meh). 

Guided by an experienced tutor, you’ll discover the secrets behind perfect dough handling, rolling techniques, and the art of assembling this tasty treat. 

With plenty of opportunities to taste as you go, you’ll also explore three unique and flavourful fillings that are sure to impress your taste buds and broaden your culinary horizons.

Throughout the course, you’ll gain practical skills and confidence to recreate gözleme at home, starting with scratch-made dough and progressing through the step-by-step process of filling and cooking. 

This is not only a demonstration-based class, but also a hands-on experience where you’ll have the chance to get your hands into the dough, experiment with different flavours, and enjoy the delicious results. 

Whether you’re looking to expand your cooking repertoire or simply indulge in a new culinary adventure, this course offers a fun and interactive way to enjoy Turkish food.

Course Structure

This introductory course is suitable for beginners and will cover the following topics:

  • Learn about the origins of this delicious Turkish flatbread and explore the various regional variations.
  • Watch a demonstration of how to make the simple yet essential gözleme dough, followed by instruction on proper dough handling and rolling techniques.
  • See how to prepare three unique fillings that elevate the flavours of your gözleme.
  • Get your hands into the dough and fillings as you assemble and cook your own gözleme, with guidance from the tutor.
  • Throughout the class, enjoy plenty of tasting opportunities to savour the results of your hard work.

Course Requirements

Please bring an apron and containers to take home any gözleme you don’t eat in class.

Your Tutor is Hikmet Vuslat Tolotta

Hikmet Vuslat Tolotta has been teaching at WEA since April 2022. 

Hikmet was born in Kastamonu, Türkiye in 1987 and migrated from Türkiye to Australia in 2011. After studying and working in many different areas, she decided to follow her passion of cooking and opened her own catering business in 2017. Nar Delights specialises in custom catering with a Turkish twist.    

Hikmet loves meeting new people, teaching, cooking, eating, reading, spending time with her family and helping others. She also volunteers for two organisations, the Turkish Association of South Australia and North East Community House.
